20 August 2015 – Just over 19 minutes. That’s how long you’d have to wait for a police officer to arrive if you called the 10111 number during an emergency.

This time was the latest national average and measured from the moment a complaint was received until attendance, SA Police Service spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo told News24 reporter Jenna Etheridge.

I had to wait for 3 hours before the police came out to our house in an “armed robbery in progress”, when it was reported. The report was a normal housebreak that dispatch gave through, but the robbers were still in the house with my husband and 2 grand children laying on the floor, while they took me through the house to point out the safes, guns, tv’s ect. Thank God they did nothing to us. Just traumatized and shaken up.
